10/3: Outstanding weather in Colorado right now gave me the opportunity to have one last outing on the Eagle River before we head back down to Arizona for the next couple of months. I went back to my favorite spot in the town of Eagle and had immediate success using smaller flies to match what was going on at the surface. No tricos in sight but a few BWOs, some midge variations, and possible a few red quills too.
The foam on this stretch of water makes it very difficult to see small sizes on the surface - regardless of the fact that I do have older eyes. While I did release around a dozen rainbows between 12-16 inches, I had to have missed maybe 30-40 strikes which means had I been more successful and watchful, it truly would have been an epic day.
