8/9-12:  A quick four day trip through out favorite part of Wyoming made for nice camping but ugly fishing.  We escaped the smoke plumes from the massive California and Oregon fires by heading North.  Our small camper van negotiated some really difficult "jeep only" type roads safely.

As we traveled over 1,000 miles on this trip, it made for too much driving and not enough exploring the areas we needed to examine in depth - as in finding some better fishing spots.  Hopefully we won't do this again in the future.  With a late morning start on Monday, we made it to the high plateau just North of Dutch John before camping that night.

The next day we drove to the Smith Fork of the Bear River and did have a modest level of success for Bonneville Cutts and the ever present Whitefish.

After lunch we drove North again, stopping at and quickly passing on fishing a part of the Salt River.  Gassed up at Alpine and headed up the Grey's.  Very iffy fishing here.  Usually it's pretty darn good for Snake River Finespotted cutts, but today I only hooked and misplayed a couple of them.  Later that afternoon higher on the Grey's had no further success at all.  No explanation why the fishing was so poor this year.  At least the camp out was decent.

Fished our way back down the Grey's again the next morning, drove towards Jackson and turned off to head up the Hoback.  Water looked too low so we passed there as well.

Stopped again a ways up the Green at the Warren Bridge but had only a few strikes on that heavily fished section of water.  Had intended to spend that night just below Fontenelle Reservoir, but the wind was so ferocious that we gave up and drove back towards Dutch John to camp again before closing out the trip the following morning.

It just hasn't been much fun fishing anywhere this year - especially in Colorado where the drought conditions have shrunk all our local waters to the point that we gave up any more thoughts of casting.  Let's hope for lots of snow next winter.
